Reducing Plastic Waste
Few people have failed to be horrified by the images of plastic debris filling the oceans, strangling marine life and getting into the food chain. Plastic was invented as an alternative to ivory in the manufacture of billiard balls, an indication perhaps of how modern life would be more or less impossible without it! However too much plastic is being used once and then discarded. Disposal technologies have, so far, been poorly developed. The removal of plastic waste is a huge logistical problem and very expensive.
Energy Alton successfully bid for funding for a Plastic Waste Awareness Campaign. We held a major event at Alton Community Centre in April 2018, followed by a series of stalls at Alton Craft Market and other events.
