Community Energy – Build Community, Cut Carbon

Our Powering Up volunteers are looking for large roofs on commercial, community or public buildings, that could be suitable for solar panels.

We want to reduce Alton’s carbon footprint by helping create more renewable energy generation – and help local organisations by reducing their energy bills.

We are working together with a local not-for-profit community energy co-operative, Energise South Downs – you can see some of their projects here.

Community Energy works by:

  • Raising money by issuing community shares
  • Using the money to pay for solar panels on the roof of a large building
  • Selling the electricity generated at a discount to the building user
  • Using any surplus income to fund sustainable community projects

If you know of any buildings that might be suitable, please contact us, and one of our volunteers will get back to you.
