Energy Alton is a volunteer-led community group taking practical action to help people in Alton and nearby villages reduce their energy use. We offer free advice, services, and projects that make a real difference.
We are a registered charity, led by a board of trustees. Do you want to get more involved in helping local people to reduce their energy use? Are you looking for a way to develop your skills, including board-level experience for a local charity? Do you have the skills we are looking for?
We are currently looking for two new trustees to join our team as a Project Trustee or a Volunteer & Engagement Trustee.
Both are voluntary roles based in Alton and local area with an expected time commitment of 4-6 hours per month. The roles are summarised below, for more detail see the bottom of the page.
Volunteer & Engagement Trustee
The Volunteer & Engagement Trustee will help Energy Alton build, support, and retain a motivated volunteer community. You’ll strengthen relationships, ensure volunteers feel valued, and help grow our network of energy advocates and community champions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide trustee-level oversight of volunteering and community engagement.
- Support volunteer recruitment through networking and partnerships.
- Develop clear volunteer pathways, roles, and expectations.
- Ensure volunteers receive induction, training, and ongoing support.
- Act as a link between volunteers, staff, and trustees.
- Promote good communication and positive volunteer experiences.
- Monitor volunteer engagement, retention, and wellbeing.
Project Trustee
The Project Trustee supports the delivery of Energy Alton’s energy efficiency and renewable projects. The role focuses on keeping projects organised, on track, and aligned with our mission to create healthier, more affordable, low-carbon homes.
You will provide practical oversight and guidance, helping ensure projects deliver real benefits for local residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning and delivery of projects.
- Provide guidance and constructive challenge to project leads.
- Identify risks and opportunities and support solutions.
- Report progress to the Board of Trustees.
- Promote good governance, safeguarding, and health and safety.
