Electric cars for East Hants DC staff

In 2015, Energy Alton held a “Silent Wings, Silent Wheels” event in partnership with Lasham Gliding and Heritage Centre, in part to give people the opportunity to look closely at the range of electric cars now available.  So we are pleased that East Hampshire District Council has bought two electric cars for staff to use.  The EHDC media communication is below.

EHDC goes electric

After installing electric car chargers in Penns Place East Hampshire District Council is practising what it preaches by buying two electric vehicles for use by staff.

EHDC is committed to promoting electric vehicles as a low-carbon alternative, and has pledged to install a network of charge points across the district, starting with the four chargers at its offices in Petersfield.

EHDC plans to install electric charge points in key locations across the district, at Horndean, Alton, Liphook and Whitehill & Bordon. The charge points can be used by the public and are designed to help motorists to choose electric vehicles over petrol-powered cars.

The acquisition of two vehicles is part of the move to a low-carbon operation. EHDC intends to become a national leader for energy-efficiency among rural local authorities.

And it has followed this by buying a Nissan Leaf and a Nissan E-NV200 van for staff to use as part of routine deliveries and site visits.

Cllr Adam Carew, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “East Hampshire District Council is committed to a low-carbon future. We have put our money where our mouth is and replaced our two pool vehicles with ones that are 100% electric!

“This means that all the journeys taken by our staff in these new vehicles will be less environmentally-damaging and more cost-efficient, saving tax payers’ money.

“I believe that electric vehicles are the future of sustainable transport and by investing in this new technology for our own use, as well as for our residents, we are leading by example.”
