Our very own Kevin Ray and Angus Berry were interviewed by BBC South for an article about the forthcoming new rules allowing plug-in solar installations. This summer the government is due to change the rules governing domestic electrical installations to allow consumers to buy and install plug-in solar panels and batteries, without the need for the expensive electrical works required for existing fixed installations. As a consequence shops could soon be filled with plug-in solar systems in the next few months.
Similar systems have proved to be very popular since they were introduced in Germany in 2022, particularly where consumers don’t own their own roof (such as in blocks of flats) or simply don’t have the space or money for a full solar installation. While much cheaper than fixed solar installations, plug-in solar is much smaller, and likely to be capped at 800W output, although it could still significantly offset electricity bills.
Watch our site for guidance on whether plug-in solar could be right for you, how much you could save and how to install a system safely.
