During the winter months we organise bi-monthly evening meetings where an invited speaker gives a talk, we show a topical film, or we hold an open discussion on a subject of interest or relevance.

Past films include ‘Dirt – the Movie’, looking at the environmental impact of large scale farming and ‘The Economics of Happiness’, a thought-provoking film that shows how life for local people can be enhanced through local decisions, including the growing of local food. We have heard talks on biomass in Hampshire and Surrey, wind energy, tidal energy and dealing with damp in old homes. Discussions have looked at the impact of climate change and how our local government is preparing against this and we have examined what measures we can individually take to reduce our own carbon footprint.

Join Energy Alton on Thursday 19 November at Alton Assembly Rooms for an evening of film, conversation and practical ideas. Come and explore the question: What could we do if our homes were warmer, our energy bills were lower, and our community worked together?
Before the Film
The evening begins with a brief 10 min Energy Alton AGM at 7:35pm, covering the essential formal business of the organisation.
That’s it – just 10 minutes. The film starts at 7:45pm.
You don’t need to be an Energy Alton member to come along and enjoy the film and the rest of the evening.

The Film: POWER STATION
POWER STATION tells the story of two artists in Walthamstow who set out to take their street off the grid, turning a local idea into a community-led solar energy project.It is funny, heartwarming and inspiring and a reminder of what can happen when people start talking to their neighbours about what might be possible.
