Head of Planning, East Hants District Council addresses Energy Alton public meeting

Simon Jenkins, Head of Planning at East Hampshire District Council (EHDC), offered inspiration and guidance to the audience at Energy Alton’s public meeting in September, the first meeting of the 2016/17 programme.  Simon shared his own career background in sustainable housing and his deep commitment to low- or zero-carbon housing, and to high-quality innovative building design, was very clear.

He considers the EHDC Energy Strategy (to which Energy Alton contributed) to be very important and promotes it at every opportunity.  He offered advice on the stages in the planning process when community groups were likely to have most influence – within the constraints of national policy. One key stage is the consideration of Reserve Matters, which are issues kept back when outline planning permission is given, for detailed discussion with the developers.   Energy Alton looks forward to engaging more closely with the planning process, in partnership with others including the Alton Society.
